Park West supports the arts and sciences

Park West Gallery was one of the event sponsors for An Evening of Art + Science. Michigan artists and scientists, groups usually thought of as opposites, collaborated together to raise funds for the Emerging Scholars Program at the A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute.
Twenty early-career physicians were each matched with a local artist. Throughout the projects they visited each other’s studios and labs to learn about processes and creative thinking in the different fields. The physicians explained their cutting-edge research for cures for diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. The artists were then tasked with capturing the beauty of the science and thinking into a visual work of art.
The masterpieces were unveiled on May 14th at the Detroit Institute of Arts as part of a silent auction sponsored by Park West Gallery. The night commenced with a debut of the artwork that was followed by a black-tie dinner and music.

The Rivera Court inside the Detroit Institute of Arts is home to Diego Rivera’s imposing murals that Edsel Ford commissioned him to paint in 1932. Roberta Smith from The New York Times describes the murals as the United States’ Sistine Chapel. The 27 panels depict how North and South America first thrived from agriculture and overtime evolved into industrialized societies. On the evening of May 14th, in the next hall, left-brains and right-brains reunited again to continue the next cycle of progress.
