University of Sydney researchers are hoping to change the lives of many currently facing health challenges, thanks to last week’s £13.5 million ($20.6 million USD) sale of a rarely seen Pablo Picasso masterpiece.
The 1935 painting, Jeune fille endormie (or Young girl asleep), was anonymously donated to the University in 2010 on the condition that it would be sold and all the proceeds directed to scientific research.
The work is an intimate portrait of the artist’s French mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter, who is the subject of many celebrated paintings by Picasso.
Park West Gallery CEO and founder Albert Scaglione recently spoke to 1240 WJIM to provide expert insight into this recent art world news headline.
