Being In The Moment with Julie Siracusa

In Art & Gallery News, Julie Siracusa

Artist Julie Siracusa asks, “Have you ever considered how the smallest detail can impact the outcome of the big picture?”

For over a year, she’s been studying mindset and how the conscious and subconscious mind operates. This has been a major pivot for her to fully understand how the human brain works and its impact on life and art.

The small details are ever present in Siracusa’s art. Each brush stroke has relevance in bringing subjects to life and her time at the easel is all about being present, being in the NOW. Siracusa says, “Many of us spend so much time reflecting on past events or drifting to thoughts of the future, rarely immersing ourselves in the moment we are living in right now,” adding, “This manner of thinking can easily rob us of reveling in the joy of the present.”

By being completely present with her art, a transformative connection can occur. Let’s say she has a Parrotfish on her easel, for example. Siracusa’s thoughts go to her personal experience of being on a dive, seeing and hearing that Parrotfish nibbling on the coral. She then reflects on how that fish nibbling will help to foster the growth of the coral and contribute to the health of the reef’s ecosystem. When she is fully connected, a dialog between the artist and her art becomes evident, and the work begins to guide her on what to do next. It is spiritual to be in that place, but it’s not exclusive to artists. It’s a place Siracusa believes everyone can reach.

The Ocean Artist, who has previously worked with Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Reefs campaign, believes that each human being is in control of their thoughts and as a result. in control of their feelings and the emotions experienced every day. Siracusa says we are 100% responsible for our lives and that happiness is an inside job, that what each person chooses to manifest and do is directly responsible for what the future will bring. Additionally, when we find ourselves at odds with someone’s opinion, we can be curious, ask questions, and learn more about other people. We can always come from a place of love and compassion for others. Regarding manifesting, Siracusa says that everyone can walk through a place in their mind, feel an ocean breeze, smell the salty air, and soak in the warmth of the sun. The mantra here may be, “I AM on a tropical beach feeling completely alive! I AM having the time of my life with the ones that I love.” She suggests using your imagination and having fun with it!

Julie Siracusa’s series Ocean Alive series was created when the artist connected with moments in time when she experienced the brilliance of the world’s oceans and the contrast and rhythm when a small slice of a unique watery landscape appears. In her Vitamin Sea series, she celebrates each sea creature and their contribution to our amazing world under the sea. Through art and a healthy mindset which is helping her maintain high vibrational energy and be more present in the moment as she lives and works, Siracusa has become an eternal student, always learning about the world and transferring that knowledge onto her canvas.
