Shannon Kay
Shannon Kay is a relentlessly passionate, independent woman who strives to help other women feel throughly comfortable and unapologetically proud to be who they are with her bold realism and pop art comic-style paintings.
Personal History
Shannon knew from an early age that she was going to be an artist when she grew up. Shannon Kay’s earliest memories are of playing around with her mother’s DSLR camera, eventually getting good at photography. Kay graduated from the University of North Texas with a fine arts degree, with a focus on photography and a minor in marketing. While she went to school for art, Kay never took an oil or acrylic painting class. Instead, she opted for watercolor because she heard it was easier. When Covid hit in 2020. Kay began to teach herself how to paint. She started with oil first, working on realism pieces that came easy because of all the skills the artist had already learned from the world of photography and because, for much of her life, Kay had been training her eyes to focus on the myriad of colors and shapes that surround all of us.
READ MORE +It’s been a swift and steady evolution since then. Shannon Kay now works with many different styles and mediums. Her art today features acrylic paintings in pop art and simple color-blocking styles. For her stunning realism works of art, Kay likes to take her own reference photos by starting with a photoshoot. She then uses those photos to paint. When creating a comic style, block style, or anything other than realism Shannon Kay begins by designing the artwork on Procreate and proceeding to draw that design onto canvas. The results are shocking yet inviting figurative artwork and tastefully sexy, bold paintings inspired equally by the likes of Tom Ford and Roy Lichtenstein.
When she’s not working on new works of art, Shannon Kay is snuggling her 1-year-old chocolate Merle Pomeranian named Koda, dancing at EDM festivals, sewing unique clothes (with a hope to one day release a clothing line emblazoned with her artwork), and traveling the world in search of new experiences to spark her creativity. Kay also loves pushing herself mentally and physically by working out and doing triathlons.
