- ARTiFact: The origin of Agnolo di Cosimo’s nickname, Bronzino (literally “bronze-colored”), is uncertain, but possibly derived from his dark complexion. It has been said that he suffered from Addison’s disease, a condition which affects the adrenal glands and often causes excessive pigmentation of the skin.
