- ARTiFact: He grew up in a musical environment – his father taught music and his mother was a singer – and struggled early on with whether to become a painter or a musician. In 1938, Steinway manufactured 500 pianos, the “Paul Klee series”, to commemorate the way in which he married the art forms of music and visual art in his works.
