Dali’s Famous Mustache Adorns a Plane Nose

In 2000, the Pop art of Peter Max adorned a Continental Boeing 777; this year, the signature mustache of surrealist Salvador Dali has been painted on a domestic Delta 757. The design is part of the promotion for an upcoming exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

According to the museum, Dalí: The Late Work, is the first major exhibition to reevaluate the last half of Salvador Dali’s career. More than 115 works will be on view, including paintings, drawings and prints. Among the highlights will be several works that have not been seen in the United States in 50 years—Christ of St. John of the Cross, Santiago El Grande and Assumpta Corpuscularia Lapislazulina, among others.
The exhibition will also explore the artist’s enduring fascination with science, optical effects and illusionism as well as his connections to such artists of the 1960s and 1970s as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Willem de Kooning.
So the next time you’re flying the friendly skies, look out the window as you board the plane; it just might be a surreal experience.
